Spain remains in first position with 603 Blue Flags flying on their beaches and ports this summer. It is two less than in 2010, as ten beaches have lost their flags and eight new ones have been awarded to Spanish ports.
Of the 511 flags awarded to the beaches Galicia has the most with 130.Valencia is next with 116, Cataluña has 108, there are 85 in the Balearics and the region of AndalucÃa has 81. If you take the amount of beaches to be covered, AndalucÃa moves to first position with its 112.2 kms.
The international award is given for water quality, cleanliness, safety, accessibility and services. One in every six beaches in Spain will fly the blue flag this year and one in every six flags awarded across the world will fly on the Spanish coastline.
